Five things you may not know about me

I was tagged by Fritz at Cycleicious, so here goes…

  • I am unable to whistle. At all. And, no, you cannot teach me. Everybody has tried my entire life and I just can’t do it.
  • I have no natural musical talent and I can play the guitar. Before I started in middle school, I was completely tone deaf and had no rhythm. I couldn’t even clap to music. My parents bought me a guitar and got me lessons. A couple years later I was heading up the youth band at my good sized church and playing lead rhythm guitar. I have an extremely logical brain so I basically just break everything down to a series of steps. I’ll never be a masterful musician as I can only copy other people, but I’m not to shabby for a guy with zero artistic/musical talent.
  • I have had six different jobs since I graduated college less than 3.5 years ago with a degree in Computer Science. I worked in a mail shop before I graduated and for a few months afterwards. Then I got a promotion to be the computer guy (hardware and software) at the small company. About a year later, I took a job at another local company where I was supposed to be working on a lot of cool web programming projects but after I got hired I got stuck with an incredibly monotonous and boring position. That lasted eight months and my old company wanted me back. They agreed to a pretty good pay raise and giving me the week of Interbike off (one of their busier weeks of the year), so I headed back. Another year later (last spring) Crooked Cog was making some money and I got some good freelancing contracts so I went parttime at the day job. Then about six months later, this October, I quit my job to do Crooked Cog and freelance web programming fulltime. I wonder what’s next…
  • I only took up mountain biking about four years ago. Mike (that helped start Blue Collar) had bought a couple cheapy Mongoose bikes for him and his uncle to lose some weight. He invited me to go for a spin, so I did and was immediately hooked. I’ve never looked back.
  • At the ripe age of twelve I got my license in scuba diving. I’ve dove off of several caribbean islands. Been as deep as 120 feet. Ran out of air once. Got stuck in a cave and had to remove my vest and air tank to get out. Seen sharks, barracudas, crabs, lobsters, octopuses and all kinds of fish. It’s by far the most dangerous sport I’ve ever done.
