Pre Punk Bike Enduro
When I was headin up for this thing I couldn’t decide if I should go geared or singlespeed so I opted to bring along one of each. I figured I’d do the pre-ride on the gears to see if I could do the Punk Bike on SS.
So this morning I met up with Maurice and four others to do the pre-ride to mark the trails, clear them as much as possible, etc. We ended up being out almost 6 hours and about 4 hours in I was pretty toasted. There are a few long climbs that just did me in. Not to mention I’ve never ridden through so much mud. I actually got stuck in some.
I was following Maurice and I thought I saw a better line to take so I peeled off to the left. I went to ride through what looked like a pile of leaves and it ended up being a huge pit of mud. I sunk my bike almost to the hubs and was still sitting upright on it at a deadstop. So I climbed off the bike and went to bring it with me and I realized it was stuck. It took a few good yanks to get it out of the mud. (and what was really fun was tonight I was telling a guy about that and he says “oh you’re the guy from Virginia who got stuck in the mud…” News travels fast.)
Anyhow the course is pretty rough and tons of mud. I’m not planning on actually doing the race tomorrow but I’ve scouted out some spots I should be able to get some wild pictures. We’ll see what happens though.
Next entry will be all about the KSWA (Keystone State Wrestling Association). Local pro wrestling match at a local moose lodge. Welcome to Pittsburgh.
